MENTORING 101
When you think of the term “mentoring” a variety of different definitions can come to mind. Webster Dictionary defines “mentoring” as “serving as a trusted guide or counselor.” Mentoring 101 is a process-driven program that focuses on relationships. It is unique and specific.
- Mentoring 101 is not complicated or difficult; however, it is specific in its purpose and intent. Its objective is to help you in your quest to help others. The purpose of this material is to address many of the issues that Christians face in their spiritual walk, not prepare them for a doctoral dissertation. Although each session has a memory verse, that is the extent of memorization that is required. New concepts are explained and difficult words are defined. If you have not been mentored yourself, that is okay. Anyone can do this, whether or not they have been mentored themselves. If you can read, you can do it.
- Mentoring 101 is about spiritual mentoring. The purpose of spiritual mentoring is to help others in the fulfillment of Matthew 28:18-20, also known as the Great Commission. In the Great Commission, Christians are commanded to make disciples. Mentoring 101 recognizes the importance of making disciples of others in pursuit of the Great Commission.
- Spiritual mentoring involves coming alongside a person on a consistent basis. This process involves meeting with your mentoring partner weekly for approximately one year. Spiritual mentoring helps people focus their lives by helping them develop a fresh perspective of faith. They are then free to allow God to change them, and then they are able to impact others’ lives as well.
